Snow Day!

Olivia was insistent on going outside the moment she saw the snow this morning - what a difference from our last snow experience!

Here's a few shots from our pre-breakfast playtime...

2.24.11

Pretty darn excited to wake up and see this today, I can't wait until Olivia wakes up so I can take her out to play!

(Yes, I know that you readers outside of CA are thinking "so what?" but it's a big deal when it snows in Seattle :)

Nanna

In moving to Washington, one of the biggest adjustments for me has been being far away from my family. We are so close and I miss them dearly, and it's very difficult for me not to have them around as often as I wish they could be. So I'm always super excited for CA visitors! My mom came up this past weekend, leaving my dad at home to hold down the fort and take care of the dog... we missed you dad! We had the BEST time. We hit up the original Nordstroms (of course), had dinner with the Perry's, enjoyed a fabulous kid-free ladies brunch at Portage Bay, shopped, went to Bellevue Park, shopped some more, went to the Ballard Farmer's market, hit up Zeek's for some pizza goodness, and even squeezed in a craft project. It was a fabulous weekend! Doug and I even squeezed in a date night since we had an in-house babysitter :).

As soon as my mom arrived, Olivia looked at her and said "Nanna". She calls Doug's mom "Damma" (g's are still a bit difficult, I guess), so apparently she decided that my mom needed a different name. So Nanna it is! Too funny.

I realized this morning that I hadn't taken any photos over the course of the weekend, so here's a few from today...

My mom's suitcase is, of course, always packed with some goodies for O. This time she brought Dot Art Painters. They're so fun (and don't make a huge mess like normal paint does!).

Olivia LOVES having someone to visit in the guest room...

iPad snuggle time.

Thanks so much for visiting, mom! We miss you already!

P.S.
Olivia is currently obsessed with flowers. I planted these last week and she insists on going outside to visit and smell them multiple times a day. I'm pretty sure that we're all more than ready for spring...

Projects

My mom and I started painting a mural in O's bedroom over the summer to match her bedding, but we didn't quite finish it. And it stayed that way for an inappropriately long time. Finally, I got tired at looking at a half-done painting and found the motivation to finish it up! Of course, she'll probably decide in a year or so that she doesn't like it anymore and I'll have to paint over it. But for now, she loves it!

Other wall.

I also put up a few newborn things (so I can look at them an say "when did she get so big?!?") and finished her first year frame (thanks Erin & Gail, I love it!).

My next project? Replacing the HIDEOUS bench seat and pillows in the play room. Yellow, red, and white striped chenille mixed with nautical-theme pillows? No thanks.

P.S. Our little exhibitionist worked herself into the nude again last night. This is how I found her over an hour after I put her to bed. No jammies, no blankie... the only thing she kept in the crib was a little stuffed animal. I wish this was video because she's also saying "doggie, doggie, woof, woof" and panting. Stinker.

2.7.11

The past 24 hours have been a real doozy...

- Last night I heard O yelling "off!" in her crib for a good 30 minutes. I finally went in to check on her and she was down to one arm left in her jammies, frantically trying to get it off. So THAT'S why there's that little tab at the top of the pajamas. Lesson learned.

- A few weeks ago, I was out with some "mom friends" and one told us a lovely story of her son illustrating the ABC's above his crib with his, well, poop. Fast forward to this morning, when Olivia comes running down the hall yelling "hand, hand!" (she hates it when she gets her hands dirty). As she got closer I noticed that she had brown all over her hands, face, belly, and legs. And then the smell hit. That's right, she gave herself a full-body poop rubdown. SO GROSS. We'll be wearing onesies for a while now.

- She split her lip open becauase she fell off of a chair and whacked a table.

- A little buddy used her head as a drum, complete with a drumstick.

So that's what's been going on here! And because a blog post isn't a proper blog post without photos, here's some shots from the birthday party we went to this morning...

O made fast friends with the dogs. They loved her. Can you guess why?

Grilled cheese, fork-style. My child is so proper.

The adorable birthday girl, Eva...

Playtime with buddies.

The silver lining to all of the mayhem is that O finally "gets" playgroup and spent the morning playing with her buddies (instead of clinging to me for dear life). Yay!

2.3.11

I've been trying to involve Olivia a bit in the kitchen, hoping that her participation in the process will lead her to be more interested in trying new things. With her diet basically limited to the typical toddler staples (cheese, yogurt, cereal, goldfish, and fruit) I'm attempting to get her to branch out!

I came across a recipe for baked oatmeal on Two Peas and Their Pod and thought that it might be right up her alley - oats, dried fruit, milk, applesauce... what's not to like? She loved helping me stir everything, and like any good baker, had to get a taste straight from the bowl.

The verdict? She actually ate a bit of the finished product for dinner, so I guess that it was worth the oatmeal bits all over the kitchen...
Although now I have to go vacuum and clean up the mess. Blah.
